Construction and renovation in MauritiusWhat wears out your surfaces here
The leeward coast is the driest and sunniest part of the island. That is what makes it so pleasant to live on… and so hard on materials. Our technical choices follow from this.
UV
The sun breaks down the lignin on the wood surface: it greys, turns fibrous, then splits. Hence finishes that penetrate rather than varnishes that peel.
Salt
Sea spray speeds up corrosion of railings, gates and fixings. Stripped metal must be protected straight away.
Sand
Coral sand at L'Hermitage, basalt sand at L'Étang-Salé: it scratches finishes and gets embedded in deck grooves.
Rain
Heavy rain during the cyclone season and humidity in less ventilated areas encourage moss and fungi on timber.
From first call to handover
No guesswork quotes: every item is priced from measurements, and the billing method (m² or hourly) is stated from the outset.
Assessment
A chat, photos, then a site visit if needed. On timber and stone, a test on an inconspicuous area.

Before you call us
Which areas do you cover?
The whole west coast, from La Possession to L'Étang-Salé, from the seafront up to the mid-slopes at around 800 m altitude: La Possession, Le Port, Saint-Paul (including Saint-Gilles-les-Bains, L'Hermitage and La Saline-les-Bains), Trois-Bassins, Saint-Leu, Les Avirons and L'Étang-Salé. Further afield? Get in touch: we consider every request.
Is the quote free?
Yes. Describe your project in the form (with photos if possible) or give us a call; we will get back to you to clarify your needs and, if necessary, visit the site. The quote is itemised line by line.
Do you charge per square metre or by the hour?
Both are possible for stripping work (mechanical, laser, steam, high-pressure). Pricing per square metre suits large, regular surfaces; hourly rates suit complex parts, detailed woodwork or small jobs. The chosen method is clearly stated on the quote.
What VAT rate applies to my works?
In Réunion Island, improvement and maintenance works on a residential property completed more than two years ago are generally eligible for the reduced rate of 2.1% VAT. Business premises, homes less than two years old and works that return the building to an “as-new” condition are generally subject to 8.5% VAT. The rate is shown on the quote; if in doubt, check with your accountant.
